Mrs. Margaret L. Boykin entered into rest on April 2, 2015 at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. She transitioned peacefully surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Margaret L. was born August 14, 1931 in Clayton AL. She was the daughter of the late Essie Mae Herring and Dan Carruthers. She attended the Barbour County Training School in Clayton AL. Margaret was united in marriage to the late Climmie James Boykin of Clayton AL in 1949. They later relocated to Utica, NY where they raised their family.
Her work career included the following: Abeloves Laundry, Mêlés Manufacturing, St. Luke’s Hospital, Beaunit Fibers and Parkers Dental Laboratory. She later retired from St. Paul’s Baptist Church Nutrition Program.
Margaret L. was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She later joined St. Paul’s Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted member. She was an active member of the Senior Choir, and volunteered for various church related activities and functions. Her hobbies included bingo and crocheting. Her passion for baking cakes was well known by many and she loved to cook for her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters Margaret J. Boykin of Buffalo, NY, Evelyn Boykin of Utica, NY, Merry Williams (Fate) of Hampton, GA, Deborah Henderson (Charles) of Utica, NY and three sons, Christopher Boykin (Charlene), Carl J. Boykin (Terri) both of Utica and Kelvin Boykin (Karen) of Harrisburg, NC. She also leaves four siblings; James Herring (Mary) of West Palm Beach, FL, Bobby Herring of Tampa, FL, Luverne Herring of West Palm Beach, FL and Jaysinyua Austin of Clayton, AL. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Climmie, a son Jeffrey and siblings John Bowens, Rufus Herring, Odis Herring, Lealer Bowens, Catherine Murray, Julius Herring and a special sister in Christ Mary Lively. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
