Obituary of Paul Lee Walker, Sr.
Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul Lee Walker Sr., of Utica, NY, born in Monticello, NY on March 4, 1954 entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 with his loving family at his side.
Paul was the first of 15 Walker children born in New York State from a family that relocated from Alabama in 1953. Paul entered into this world moving quickly. His "crib" could not hold him, he fell out of it so often trying to get out to be free to get into something mischievous. He walked at six months, talked fluently at an early age and just took off as to say, "World, here I am". Paul was a born leader, always taking the lead in whatever game that was being played. He excelled at all sports and even learned to drive at an early age. Paul attended Monticello Central Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1973.
Paul met and married the love of his life, Luz (Garcia) Walker on April 2, 1982 and they were blessed with four children: Noemi (Anestacio) Teneyuque, Paul “Mann”, Jr., Joshua and David.
Paul was a "Jack of all trades", just to name a few: mechanic, plumber, carpenter, painter, electrician, roofer, singer, songwriter, self-taught musician, stand-up comedian and an excellent cook, aka "The Master Chef". Paul even preached, because he knew the bible.
Paul was so hospitable, whenever anyone came to visit he would cook you a meal, sing and play you a song on his keyboard and then entertain you by telling a story. Paul loved his wife, Luz, of 33 years and all his family. His grandchildren were his "diamonds". He loved to spend time caring for them and making them happy.
Paul was special, definitely one of a kind. He was always so full of life, fun and laughter. Paul was ALWAYS happy, never sad, he was that person you enjoyed having in your life. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son.
Paul leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife, Luz; daughther, Noemi and sons: Joshua and David; his father, Bishop Leon Walker, brothers: Jessie, Leon, Jr. (Daphne),all from Syracuse, NY and William (Joanne) of Charlotte, NC; eight sisters: Dorothy McCoy, Marie (Alander) Crandell of Monticello, NY; Lavina (James) Wilson, Pastor Catherine Harris(Roosevelt), Geneva (Chris) Tull, Betty (Alonzo) Coleman, Sandra and Diane (Lee) Wright, all of Syracuse, NY. His aunts, Mattie Dawson of Monticello, NY and Octavia Gandy of Richmond, VA; as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Paul was predeceased in death by his mother, Imenia (Gandy) Walker, son: Paul "Mann", Jr.; and brothers Lincoln, Douglas and Alfred.
Services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Peter Spencer UAME Church, 841 Bleeker Street, Utica, NY. Family and friends may call from 10 - 11:00am with service immediately following. Services entrusted to T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Services, Inc., 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501
