Obituary of George Washington Davis, II

George Washington Davis, II, 84 years young was lovingly known as “Bill”. George was born on August 6, 1932 in Quitman, the eldest child to George W. Davis, Sr. and Mary L. Edwards. George was raised, educated and graduated from Brooks County school district and upon graduation, enlisted into the United States Army in 1952. Serving faithfully in the Korean War. After completing his duty with the US Army, George enlisted with the reserves, where he served until 1962. When George arrived in Utica, NY, he worked as an Engineer at Univac Co. and retired from DuPont Remington Arms. George had a passion to uplift the community in which he resided. George and his brother, Franklin H. Davis, Sr. developed a fellowship with his friends and others, teaching those who would listen, that opportunity did exist but an effort had to be made to obtain those opportunities. George became a Utica, NY Police Officer, a strong role model and leader within the community. His presence still resonates with all those he touched. George “Bill”, leaves to cherish his memory, his sons: George W. (Denise E. Ladson) Davis, III, Arthur L. Davis and his daughter, Juanita O. Davis, Chavon Rucker, Nerrissa Rucker and Georgetta Rucker. As well, as a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
