Obituary of Willa Outten
"She has fought a good fight, she finished her course, she has kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for her a crown of RIGHTEOUSNESS"
In the early evening hours of May 19, 2017 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, our beloved mother and grandmother was called home to rest.
Willa M. Outten, born on September 20, 1943 was the eldest daughter of the late George Lee and Lillian (Marable) Outten of Portsmith, VA.
Willa (Mommy) Outten, as she was so lovingly referred to, was married to the late Will (Bop) Jones, this union produced three beautiful daughters: Patricia Outten, Christina Woodard and Teresa Jones and a very special son-in-law; Ivan Holt; all of Utica, NY.
Willa leaves to mourn her passing: one brother, Michael Outten of Florida and one sister, Lenora Harris of New Jersey; her grandchidren whom she helped raise: Tosha Outten, Michael A. Outten, Billy Early Woodard, Michael Woodardd, Andre Woodard, Lilliane Woodard, Daryl White, Justin Holt, Waquaih Holt and Ian Holt; as well as a host of great grand, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Willa was predeceased by six brothers: Calvin, Wilburt, Ronnie, Danny, George Lee and Harry Outten and one sister: Eleanora Ross.
Willa M. Outten "Mommy" was educated in New Jersey and retired as an LPN. Willa's career was with the State of New Jersey and Bayada Nursing.
Willa Outten was a member of the Gethesmane Tabernacle U.H.C. in Trento, NJ until she relocated to New York, where she attended Metropolitan Baptist Church on occassion.
Her spirit and guidance will truly be missed by all of those she touched.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with service immediately following at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery following the funeral service.
