Obituary of Egbert Anthony Pollock

Please share a memory of Egbert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

EGBERT “BERTY” ANTHONY  POLLOCK, 67, closed his eyes on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, New York.

Egbert Anthony "Berty" Pollock was born on December 27, 1950 to Samuel Pollock and Edith Elizabeth McLean in the town of Scotts Pass,  Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies.

At an early age, Egbert relocated to Kingston, Jamaica, attending public and trade school. This education prepared him for employment in home construction, painting, carpentry, and other occupations.

The hills of St. Mary, Egbert quarried precious rocks and sculptured magnificent master pieces of arts. This stone mining craftmanship earned him the name “Rocky” and led to the entrepreneurship of his own small business and finished products which made it to the shelves of department stores and tourist markets.

Egbert relocated to Queens, NY in 1989, becoming a Maintenance Supervisor for multiple Private Resident Complexes.  His integrity, dedication and positive attitude maintained him in this capacity for over a decade.

With God’s blessings, the sweat of his brow and astute financial planning, Egbert purchased a homestead for the comfort of his children and family in Utica, NY. The "Roof Over His Head" was a significant accomplishment, giving a foundation for his family to see with a vision comes reality.

In the comfort of his home, Egbert devoted much time in profound spiritual meditation and solitude. During his formative years, his upbringing exposed him to the religious teachings of Jehovah Witness, however, when he became a young man, Egbert embraced the theology and culture of Rastafarianism. The wisdom literatures of the Bible were some of his favorite books; especially, Psalms and Proverbs.

As a Rasta, Egbert enjoyed nature and the outdoors.  When he wasn’t home, his place of social interactionen was the neighborhood Dunkin Donuts.  It was not the donuts or coffee that enticed his appeitite or lick his fingers, it was the Coco bread, beef patty and a bowl of noodle soup, that is what “hit the spot.”  Today, we can resolutely say “the rest is history.”

Egbert leaves to cherish his memories, sons: Jason Pollock (grandchildren: Jayla Pollock and Jacob Stoneman) and Jermaine (Stephanie Hudson) Pollock; brothers, John Z. Reid, Delroy McLean and Leon McLean; sister, Evelyn McLean; step-father, Lester McLean; grandchildren: Sonjai Hudson-Pollock and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Egbert is predeceased by his parents:  Samuel Pollock, Edith Elizabeth McLean and brother Leopold McLean.
