Obituary of Melissa Angela Lopez

Melissa Angela Lopez, 35 of Utica, NY transitioned to her next journey on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. 

Melissa, born on December 21, 1983 in Brooklyn, NY to Miguel and Iris (Mercado) Lopez relocated with her family at the age of 5 to Utica, NY.  Utica was the place that she called “home”, attending and graduating from Proctor High School in 2001. 

After her graduation, Melissa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Math from Utica College.  Utilizing her degree in different sectors, she finally put her roots at the Utica Public Library as a Library Assistant.  This career path brought much joy and fulfillment and it is also where she added her final touch to our community before her passing.  Her presence will linger as she was incredibly motivated to create numerous children programs for the library that will continue to inspire all those who have the privilege to know Melissa through her creativity.

Melissa leaves to cherish her short but blessed and loving life, her mother Iris Lopez; sister Jessica (Leonard Bradley) DeJesus; brothers: Jason P. (Gillian Diaz) DeJesus and Miguel A. (Liz Almonte) Lopez, Jr.; maternal grandmother Reinalda Roman, her companion and “Best Friend”, Erin Stearns and of course, her beloved pets: Revi and Mila; nephews Joshua Diaz, Nicholas Powers, James Titus, Jason P. DeJesus, Jr. and Jacob DeJesus, niece Angelize Lopez and great-niece Leiliana Diaz, loving aunt Miriam Ramirez and uncle Victor (Diana) Mercado as well as a host of loving cousins who just adored her.

The family would like to acknowledge and send a special “Thank You” to all those who have reached out during their time of grief and have asked in honor of Melissa and in lieu of flowers or gifts, to please send a donation to the family, in the name of her mother, Iris Lopez, to continue to honor the memory of one who is “Gone To Soon”.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm; funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 pm.  Interment will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, Forest Hill Cemetery, 2201 Oneida Street, Utica, NY 13501 at 12:00 pm.
