Obituary of Carolyn M Gadsden

Carolyn M, Gadsden of Utica, NY, born on September 6, 1937, in Nettlesburgh, West Virginia was called home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2019 with her family by her side.

The daughter of The Late Ivory Adams Sr. And Dorothy Jones, was educated in the Leckrone Pennsylvania school system. She was married to Alonzo Gadsden for 57 years. Carolyn retired after 18 years of service from The Masonic Care Community of Utica, NY. Carolyn was also a care provider for Oneida County.

Carolyn was unique in her own way. She was kind, extremely comical (as we say what comes up comes out!) Carolyn was very caring and generous, but most importantly, very dedicated to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, godmother, sister and aunt. Also, a devoted member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for forty-eight years.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Alonzo Gadsden; daughter; Joann (Adams) and James Hunter, of Utica, NY. Her goddaughters; Traycee Adams, Jahmilia Adams; very special goddaughters Carolyn Adams and Joetta Adams all of Utica, NY;  sisters; Marva Adams and Joyce Adams; grandpups; Herby, Bella and Noah Daboot the aggressive one; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was predeceased by her mother Dorothy Jones, her father Ivory Adams Sr, her brother Ivory Adams, Jr.; grandson Snowball (the dog); nephews; Eddie Patterson, John Linen JR and Odum Shealey JR ( Oddie); nieces; Katrina Adams, Mary Linen and Betsy Linen.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday June 4, 2019  from 11:00am - 12:00 pm at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1004 Albany Street, Utica, NY 13501 with funeral services immediately following.

Our family would like to acknowledge and extend a heartfelt "thank you" to all those who have called or stopped by during our time of grief and a "thank you" to St. Elizabeth Hospital for the care given to our loved one.
