Lawrence J. Akey, 78 of Utica, NY passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 surrounded by the love of friends “aka” family. Larry was born on April 2, 1941 in Plattsburgh, NY to Violet Pinkman. He graduated from the Plattsburgh school system and relocated to Utica, NY and began his career as a chef, first with Club Monarch, then with General Electric and finally with Meals on Wheels. A member of Holy Trinity Church, a faithful parishioner. Another passion of Larry’s was baseball, the last games that he attended with his friends “family” was the Mets and Redsox’s in 2019. He also loved playing bingo with his church. Larry leaves to cherish his memories his sister: Ann Paul (Arkansas); brother: Joseph Flynn (Troy, NY ); friends/family: John and Betty Mercer; nieces: Lisa Blake and Barbara Kroger, both of Plattsburgh, NY; two dear friends: Ms. Gloria Green and Betty Mutuszewski. Larry was predeceased by his brothers: John Flynn and Wayne (Shirley) Akey. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all those who have reached out during this time of grief and also acknowledge the care given to Larry from the Faxton Dialysis and Rehabilitation Center.
