Shawn Earl Spann (Boykin) was born on February 15, 1994, in Utica, N.Y. Shawn is the son of Alfonza Boykin and the late Delilah Spann of Utica, N.Y. Shawn went home to Glory on March 3, 2020 with His Loving Family at his side. Shawn attended Kernan Elementary School and T. R. Proctor High School, Utica, NY. Upon graduating Shawn received certificates in C.P.R., Asbestos removal and OSHA training. Shawn’s favorite NFL team was the New Orleans Saints, favorite NBA team was the Los Angeles Lakers, specifically Kobe Bryant. He loved video games, movies and his music. Anyone who knew Shawn knew that he was a great young man who did not complain. Shawn would forget his circumstances to make those around him feel special. He could make you laugh at the drop of a dime. Shawn follows in his homegoing his mother Delilah Spann, grandparents James and Mildred Spann, Od and Mrs. Nellie Boykin and is now in their great care. Shawn leaves to cherish his memories: 15 siblings – Kimberly Johnson, Temesha Martin, Anthony Ellis, Sophia Derby, Whitney Bronson, Darnell Watkins, Alfonza Boykin ll, Cameron Boykin, Anthony Boykin, Shardey Walker, Nakeya Boykin, Jesse Walker, Jameel Walker, Rashia Portis and Samiya Griffin. Shawn also leaves: Mom Sophia Boykin, Aunt Denessa Spann, Aunt Jacqueline Boykin, Aunt Yolanda Spann, (Micah’s wife) Aunt Anita Maryland (Boykin), Aunt Karen Beavers (Boykin), Sister in law Jennifer Ellis (Anthony’s wife) Uncle Oscar Boykin, Uncle James Spann, Uncle Jeffery Boykin, His favorite Uncle Micah Spann, Uncle Joseph Spann, Uncle Kelvin Boykin, Uncle Marcus Howard, Uncle Bryan Maryland, best friend Jessie Joynt as well as many nieces, nephews, greats and a host of cousins and many friends. Shawn’s smile could light up the darkest part of your life. Gone but never will be forgotten. SHAWN YOU ARE THE GREATEST NEPHEW THAT AN UNCLE CAN HAVE, YOU BESIDES MY WIFE YOLANDA WILL ALWAYS BE MY BEST FRIEND. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART AND SOUL. NOT A DAY WILL GO BY THAT I THANK GOD THAT YOU ARE APART OF MY BETTER HALF.
