Obituary of Betty Jackson
Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty Jackson, 57, was born October 17, 1964 in New Hartford, New York to the late Jo and Bettye Grimes, the 3rd of 6 children.
Betty was summoned to her eternal rest on October 23, 2021 at Saint Luke's hospital in Utica New York.
She was affectionately known by family and friends as “Betty” “Mrs. Jackson” “Mom “and “Mommy”. Those who knew her best would at their own risk call her “Betty Jo”, as they knew that would get a rise out of her. To her grandchildren she's known as “Nana “and we would venture to say it is her most coveted title of all.
Betty was also known for her classy yet sassy spitfire personality. As a child she attended Kernan school with her sisters and after she went on to UFA high-school where she ran track and field, she was also on the step team. During these years she met her high school sweetheart Robert Ricardo Jackson. After a short courtship, they married December 31 1983 and went on to have 4 children from this union Nykisha JaCole Pierce, (38) Robert Ricardo Jackson, Jr (36), Quinton Denzel Jackson (31) and Eboni Rachel Jackson (26). All four children leading successful lives from the love, understanding the ability of self-awareness instilled by their mother. .
The first 20 years of their lives as a family Betty accompanied her husband throughout his entire US Army Military career living in places like Hawaii, Germany, Oklahoma and Georgia before settling back in Utica/Marcy, New York. Though Betty was an amazing housewife and mother she always kept employment to aid in her comfortable (some would say lavish) lifestyle. In her earlier years she was a daycare provider, phlebotomist, CNA worker and Group Home Supervisor. All of this before she found her true talent in banking; she then began a new career starting at Bank of America and finally retiring as a personal banker at Adirondack.
She earned the respect of everyone who encountered her because she was not only easy on the eye's and smelled good on any given day, but she was smart, had passion for what she did and treated everyone accordingly, regardless of title.
Betty was driven by her undying love and devotion to not only her husband and children but more over her 5 grandchildren. Mario Pierce (17) Paiton Pierce (13) Ariahana Williams (13) Jayden Jackson (7) and Jordyn Jackson (4); she loved to travel and see the world even after her military life ended. She took frequent vacations to North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, she cruised to Saint Croix and even brought in a birthday on the sandy beaches of Cancun Mexico.
Betty leaves behind a long legacy to be cherished by her siblings James, Cynthia, Johnnie and Julia, a daughter in-law, Mariah and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her baby brother Henry Grimes.
Gone too soon, but will never be forgotten; she lives on in the hearts, minds and memories of all who knew her
