James Ray Butler

James Ray Butler, 78 of Utica, NY passed away with his loving family as his side on April 2, 2023. James was born on December 28, 1944 in Maxton, North Carolina to James Smith Butler and Katherleen Davis. One of ten children. At an early age the family moved to Utica, NY. James was educated and graduated from the Utica school system (UFA). Never one to be idle, James decided to become an entrepreneur by building his own shoe shine box and going around the city shining shoes. When that wasn't enough for his business aptitude he became employed by CONRAIL, working on the railroad. James, a family man who was an amazingly loving, selfless person shared whatever he had. A fantastic uncle with his many nieces and nephews. When he wasn't spending time with the family you could either find him at his favorite fishing spot or playing some serious pool. He leaves to cherish his memories his sister Barbara Butler-Williamson; brothers: Lawrence Butler and Cleo "Bobby" Butler (Las Vegas, NV); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. James is predeceased by his parents: James Smith Butler and Katherleen Davis; sisters: Dorothy Anne Carter, Janice B. Moore, Diania M. Allen and Patricia Butler; brothers: Leo Butler and Ferman Butler.
