Please share a memory of Carrie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ms. Carrie Mae Jackson was born on December 18, 1935 in Cordele, GA. to the late Empire Lawson and Mamie Mayo. She was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 87 on June 10, 2023. She lived her remaining years at West Street from 1985 to 2023, prior to that she lived at Goldbase Apt., Washington Court Apt, ND Peterson Apt, Steuben St. and Leah St. from 1968 to 1985.
Carrie peacefully passed in the care of Hospice-Abraham House located at 417 N. Washington Street, Rome, New York and now she has gone home to join her siblings and three children: Sully Hudson (grandmother), Leola Kyles (sister), Louise Cromwell (sister), Perry Lester (sister), Annie Lawson (sister), Cap Cully (brother), Richard Richardson (brother), Robert Richardson (Brother), Willie Mayo (Brother), Alma Terry (oldest daughter), Brodice Lawson (oldest son) and Danny Jackson (baby of the family).
Carrie leaves to cherish her memories her last three sons: Richard Jackson, Samual Jackson and Gothrey (Adrienne) Jackson; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. But most of all, she is survived by the last surviving brother of her immediate and generational family: Johnny Mayo.
The family following the path of the farming families relocated to Belle Glade, Florida in the 1950’s and in 1968 Carrie moved her family to Utica, NY to join her immediate family members that made the journey before her. She was a hard-working mother and women of her time. She worked hard every summer in the bean field, tomato field, cabbage field and apple orchard to make that extra money. So that she could provide for her family and when it came time. She could go out and play hard in everything she enjoyed like playing (Poker and petty pat were her favorite card games), playing Bingo a game, she was a Master at even when she fell asleep. She knew when her cards had a Bingo win and lately the Turning Stone Casino is where she could go, sit and play in peace.
Carrie held down several jobs in Housekeeping at St. Agnes Church, Deerfield Hill Psychiatric Center and the NYS Psychiatric Center in Marcy, NY after learning and completing a Math Program at a Center called: ManPower. Where women who couldn’t read or write learned how to count her money by doing math and then later learned how to spell and write her name on her checks. And she knew how to count her money!
But most of all, she raised 6 children and not once did she ever except a man over love for her children. She now has departed to join 3 in heaven with our God and Lord Jesus Christ and she leave 3 to continue on with her work here on earth. On this day we are here to pay our last respects and to say we Love You, Farewell and to go in Peace.
