Obituary of William Berry, Jr.

William “Poncho” Berry, Jr. of Amsterdam, NY went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 21, 2017. William was born on August 3, 1954 in Utica, NY to Annette McClary and William Berry, Sr.
He leaves behind his mother, Annette McClary (Utica), sisters: Sheila Berry and Serena Northern; stepsister Aretha Stuckman; brother Keith Northern and brother-in-law Clarence Pugh (all of Utica, NY); uncles: Barney Carter, Rodney and Steve Carter (all of Utica, NY) and aunt Thelma Carter (Utica, NY). Paternal Grandmother Ethel Butler (West Palm Beach, FL); Revered Edward (Dolores) Berry of California; Steve (Karen) Butler of California and Laura Butler (West Palm Beach, FL); as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
William also leaves to mourn his journey home, his caregiver Coleman Hallett (Amsterdam, NY), Pastor Reverend Robert Phillies of Church Broad Aldin Baptist of Amsterdam and his dog Gina who will miss him dearly.
William was predeceased in death by his father William Berry, Sr., stepfather John B. McClary, stepmother Ann Berry, Aunt Linda Butler, grandfather Roger Butler and uncle Richard Berry.
William was a resident of Utica before moving to Amsterdam, NY 11 years ago. He attended Utica schools and worked various jobs, his last being at Bossert Manufacturing.
The family gives special thanks to caregiver Coleman Hallett, Kim and Melissa and all the nurses and doctors of St. Mary’s for the excellent caregiving of our loved one.
Family and friends may call on Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 219 Leah Street, Utica, NY 13501 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. William’s funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm. The Reverend Marilyn Bell will officiate the service.
Interment will be at the discretion of the family.
